Obviously, a lot depends on the guitar and what type of tone you go for, but I've never found the JB to be that dirty or compressed. I play a lot of clean on the bridge pickup.

I love the mids that this pup puts out and it sounds great clean as well as overdriven. Gives a great Snowy White Bird of Paradise tone clean.

^^This^^

I have the same pickup on an 89 MIK Epi (50s wiring and .022 PIO cap) and love it. I gig with it doing classic/modern rock even some country and it just shines for all. Work those volume and tone knobs too. That pickup has many voices.
