strange! I was so sure that i have seen pictures of the SN starting with an R but looking it up now, i can not find one of it so you should be right.
On the Gibson website guitars are named differently. There are 1959 Les Paul Reissues and 1959 Les Paul Standard VOS without saying reissue. Are those both called R9?
