The thing with Customs,RI's at least,is that the neck may indeed be thicker,but it will be much more comfortable due to the shoulders. Nothing else seems to feel so good and so right. They fit like a glove.

I'd go with what you feel comfortable with.
If you ask me,there just ain't nothin' like a Custom. Love 'em.
