I didn't add anything or do anything to the cover before spraying it. It was a gold cover about 15 years ago but the gold had tarnished off to the silver.

All I did was spray over it with 2 coats of paint making sure to do it when it was cold and/or windy.

I could probably spray it with clear coat without any ill effect on sonics but I'm planning on it flaking and scraping off organically giving a distressed look.
