I hadn't thought of the top collapsing, I thought a bridge like that would relieve pressure on the top (which would help the guitar seeing as the wood is thin due to previous damage) and put pressure on the back, which is more stable.
As for the action I was hoping if I lowered the bridge as far as it would go, the guitar would be good for slide guitar.
