I too have recently fallen for the SG bug - picked up an Epi Korina SG and a Gibson SG Special in the last month. Had to sell some stuff to cover the costs but, man, was it worth it. I guess I never played lead much 'till my current band but the upper fret access is a revelation!

The '61 re-issue is fabulous - one day ... not selling the R8 for one.
