Never a problem flying SW from California to Texas with my Strat. The case easily fits into the overhead, which is all SW cares about.

If I fly at a normally crowded time of day or week, I'll pay the extra ten bucks for Early Bird check-in which ensures you'll get an empty overhead somewhere along the fuselage. No worries.
