Think of the ES-335 as a slim acoustic.
Laminate top, back and sides - with a solid block extending from the neck down to the tailpiece.
Semi-hollow, eh?

The ES-339 is a very chambered Les Paul, to make it overly simple.
Mahogany body routed out like a big bowl, leaving only the needed structural areas for support.
Les Paul-ish Maple cap is then glued on.
Leaves lotsa air inside.

I've heard of a few that had wood chips (?) tumbling around in the hollowed-out areas.
Same for a couple chambered Les Pauls too.

Shake the sh!t out of it before you pay your money.
