Another suggestion:
Go to GFS site and choose a body, a neck and all the hardware for yourself. You can buy the electronics from them as well, or you could go to our Business Classifieds and choose a pickup winder and even someone who makes a pre-assembled harness, thus making sure that you get some quality electronics in your guitar. It's just what I would / will do at some time.
I agree with you that a project guitar can be fun. Good luck with it.
