thats a great point. And thats also why I never lasted in music lessons as a child. I had no intent and interest in learning to play that stuff. I wanted to learn how to play an instrument so I could learn and play music contemporary of my generation. Although the classics are useful to teach theory and such, I still think that some teachers are just too much into it that some students get completely turned off from proceeding with the lessons.

Yes, many of the teachers are to blame. You see at eight or nine you can basically get a kid to play any instrument.
The problem arrises when their world opens up as young teenagers.They start to hang around with others who are listening to rock and it suddenly doesn't become cool to be scratching away on Clair Da Lune on a violin.. That's why they often ditch it all.. If the teacher would get them to play along with a rhythm section and do something they could relate to, more would hang on in there.. Shame really.
