Yes, many of the teachers are to blame. You see at eight or nine you can basically get a kid to play any instrument.
The problem arrises when their world opens up as young teenagers.They start to hang around with others who are listening to rock and it suddenly doesn't become cool to be scratching away on Clair Da Lune on a violin.. That's why they often ditch it all.. If the teacher would get them to play along with a rhythm section and do something they could relate to, more would hang on in there.. Shame really.
