According to the RS website, that kit already has the Superpots. I have Superpots in mine, and they behave pretty much as you describe, so I think you probably do have them.
I also use exactly the blend dretot describes, good mix is bridge 10/neck about 8.5 (even though mine is wired modern w/treble bleed, it blends just the same as he says his 50s does).
It gets easier to find those sweet settings when you get used to it.
