Re: An Introduction and some '57 VOS LPC Questions
be very patient, i searched on ebay for months, as id always wanted a a late 50's custom. then i found what i was looking for: a lpc 07 '57 with a vos finish for $2,800 (us dollars), id say when i got it, in the summer of 08, it was virtually brand new. shipped/tax/duty came at an extra, still saved huge amounts of money though. search every couple of days, and you'll find one, may take you a while but you will find one. the one i bought was from ebay, and had a "buy now price" on it, and i didnt hesitate. in addition, the guy i bought if from shipped worldwide.
the guitar is gorgeous, not a fast guitar as the neck is very big and thick, possibly the biggest neck gibson have ever made on a les pauls on the 57 custom, please correct me guys if im wrong. ( i was shocked at how big the neck was, however, you do get used to, and i think it adds to the sonic character of this particular guitar). it has a real nice character to it. like driving a classic car. the action is very low, has 57 classic pick ups, i think after 07 the 57 customs have bb pick ups, she has a big big range of tones, from a jimmy page trebly staccatoesque sound, to a full warm deep jazz sound within a flick of the switch. mine weighs about 10.2 lbs, ive heard of some almost going up to 12.5 lbs, so should you find one from ebay, maybe worthwhile verifying the weight. its my prized possession, i play it every day almost.
