Bingo! The first thing I did with my two Les Pauls (a Studio and a Classic) was lower the bridge pickups. The neck pups were perfectly positioned, just a sliver of paper higher than the pickup frames, but the bridge pups were way too high. Just lower them a floor or two depending on your sonic comfort zone. (I kept the stock 490/498 pups on the Studio and no sweat!)
