My two best-sounding solid electrics unplugged are my Epi Junior (mystery-mahogany, mystery-piece count) and two-piece Alder Tele. My R8 is well behind them, and my '92 Standard is an acoustic dud.

Plugged up, I don't hear any correlation in the rankings. With the same pickups in the R8 and '92, they're indistinguishable.
