Yep! The actual tuning machines themselves don't mean squat after the guitar is in tune. People switch to Grovers usually because of the smooth feel, and gear ratio which can make for easier tuning... but you still need to put lube in the nut, no matter what type of tuners you use... even a high end set of Schallers or Spertzel will pop when a string goes over a dirty spot in the nut, and jump a pitch.
