actually it is. gibson might be fixing prices, but people are still buying them. if people stop buying them, the prices will come down. gibsons dont hold their value all that well (until they get pretty old) so buying used is where its at...$2000 R8s, $3000 R9s, $800 SG Standards and $1400 USA LP Standards? forgetabouttit
also keep in mind that $300 in 1959 is equal to about $2200 today, so the standard is only slightly overpriced as compared to 1959. but as others have noted, if you pay sticker you're a fool.
