That's not true. Even though it sounds like the metal distortion (it's not the amp, it's extra distortion) kills everything, there are things to look for. The right pickup for your playing will create these post-pick harmonics that "tip over" during the lifetime of a tone. You don't get them without the right kind of pickup.

So even though you can't tell a PAF from a 500T on normal single notes anymore, play dynamics do change.

It doesn't matter whether you got a cap or not or which one. Just use a 1 Mohm pot, best of all worlds.
