I have an '89 Studio Lite with a Floyd and I think it kicks A$$. An original Floyd Rose, set-up properly will have little or no degradation in tone or sustain.

I wouldn't butcher an LP to install a trem and I'd take an LP with no trem over ANY guitar with a trem. But I like having an LP w/ a factory installed Floyd as an option. I play metal/rock/blues and I've always liked using a trem.
