First Build, new to Forum
Hi,
I hope my ok by posting an Intro thread in Luthiers Corner; since I'm primarily interested in building, I thought it would be a good place. So....I rarely play guitar anymore. I sold my last piece of gear almost two years ago, aside from an acoustic that hangs around and collects dust. No real desire to play anymore. My Son became interested in guitar a few months ago and started taking lessons. I needed a new hobby, so I thought I would build a guitar. I still love the instrument itself I guess.
How about a 59 Les Paul
So anyway - my first question - What is the general consensus for the steps from lumber to binding?
I'm starting from two pieces of mahogany and two pieces of maple, joined and the right thickness.
I glued the mahogany pieces and now have a mahogany balk. What next? bandsaw and route the body, then glue the top and route - or glue the top to the balk, then bandsaw and route them as a single unit?
I have seen examples of both methods.
What seems to work best?
Cheers~~
