Re: Death Metal?

I don't think you can say that a whole, very diverse musical genre such as 'Death Metal' can be good, bad or otherwise.

I'm not too keen on the original death stalwarts such as Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse and Obituary. What I do like though is some of the most diverse and well composed metal music coming from the sub-genres of death: Technical/Progressive/Jazz Death coming from the likes of Opeth, Cynic, Atheist and Nile; Melodic Death, started by Carcass and carried on by the Gothenburg bands; Death/doom from Paradise lost, etc.

Some of the best rock musicians of our day are playing in these bands and it's shortsighted to place them all in the same basket as the more Satanic, occultist leaning Blackened death metal acts.

I also think as musicians we shouldn't restrict ourselves to listening to one or two types of music, whatever they might be. Therein lies the stagnation of music and it's limitless possibilities.
