The sound "in" sound was different in the 50's, rockabilly twang, Gretches, Fenders, early 60's was surf and british invasion, more twang, Fenders, Rickenbackers, etc. It wasn't untill blues based rock started to become popular in the mid 60's that the sound changed, especially imitators of the Chicago blues sound .... Peter Green, Clapton, Mike Bloomfield, Keith Richards, Page, etc.,
