This is one of the problems of a "throwaway society".
Uninformed parents buy their children "holiday pets" with
no regard to the animals long term future.
This includes ferrets,rats,rabbits,hamsters,gerbils etc,..
Sure it's adorable when their tiny and fit in the palm of your hand,
once they grow not so adorable and become a burden, only the animal
suffers.

This why we have shelters and rescues overflowing with unwanted
animals. As the economy worsens, pets are the first to suffer.Not being fed,
and denied the required veterinary care.
