1955 Les Paul Goldtop Restoration

Here’s a nice example of a restored 1955 Les Paul Goldtop. One of our members ‘d1m1’ got the GT from the original owner who modded it in the 1960’s. The guitar had a third pup, a second jack, and the original finish was stripped off. The restoration was done by Igor Keller, a luthier from Slovakia, and the Les Paul looks killer now! CITES To Regulate All Species of Rosewood

Starting on January 2, 2017 the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, or CITES for short, will start regulating any kind of rosewood being imported and exported. What this means is that if you’re thinking of selling a Les Paul outside the U.S., you’d need to apply for and include the guitar with a CITES re-export certificate through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Slash looks over his shoulder, smiles and says “Oh man, I can’t walk away from that.” Continue Reading

Tom and Les Paul

The Master’s Apprentice

Tom Doyle is one of those rare characters in the ever-long musical instrument production play that not only shadowed the Shakespeare of electric guitar, but also quickly became Les Paul’s right-hand man. Much like the Roger Mayer and Jimi Hendrix partnership that yielded some of the most iconic tones ever through science and art, the alchemical adventure of Tom Doyle and Les Paul was one of vision, heart, hands and the transmutation of wood, wire and metals into tonal gold.
